Dance Theatre Coalition - Field Workshops

What is the Field?

The Field was founded in 1985 by Wendy Lasica, who established The Field as a performance space in Soho and directed its development until 1987. Artists met at this space regularly to help each other improve their artwork and counter the isolation that often comes with the territory of an artistic career. Organically, a distinct method of developing work evolved into what is now known as “Fieldwork” and The Field grew into a valuable service organization for artists.  The Field has reached beyond NYC over the years with 15 satellite Field sites that include Chicago, Seattle, Houston, Salt Lake City and even as far as Tokyo, Japan.

Wohoo it’s summer!  Summer is the only time during the whole year that we offer a drop-in option during a Field Workshop.  Here’s how it works:  if you want to sign up for the full 8-week session you can.  Signing up for the entire 8-weeks up front gets you a discounted rate ($80 for an 8-week workshop breaks down to a mere $10 per session) and you are guaranteed a slot each week.  If you want to drop-in, you get the convenience of coming when it works for you.  The rate is $12 per drop-in session.  Drop-ins are on a first come first serve basis, so we recommend arriving early or pre-registering online to insure that you have a slot.

Artists working in all mediums of art (performance, visual, literary, film/video) are accepted to Field Workshops on a first come first serve basis. Artists of any level may participate. Our workshop participants often include established professional artists as well as beginning artists.  Workshops are limited to 8 participants and early registration is recommended as workshops often fill and have a waiting list.  You can register at any time prior to the workshop.  Once payment is received your slot is reserved.  NO REFUNDS are issued after payment is received - if you cannot attend the workshop you registered for, you can apply the fee to a future workshop, but you cannot receive a refund.

To register:  You can register fee with Pay Pal using a Credit or Debit card. You do not need to have a Pay Pal account to use Pay Pal.

Please include email and phone contacts so we can confirm your registration.

Participating Artists:

Holly Fowers, Kerri Hopkins, Zelma Jensen, Tisha Myers, Una Pett , Lorena Ponce De Leon, Zara Shallbetter, and Kate Wolsey

These artists developed works together over the past seven weeks during the Field Workshop – a multi-disciplinary feedback oriented workshop designed to provide a place where artists, regardless of approach, discipline, background, or experience, can explore his or her vision.

This is a fun, casual show that will afford you a unique evening of visual art, performance, and multi-disciplinary works. This is also a great introduction to the Field method if you are interested in participating in a future workshop.  Bring a friend, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the show!
